King of vegetables! Available all year round, inexpensive and versatile, cabbages come in a number of varieties and their health properties are well known. However, do you ever wonder what on earth you're going to do with it this time? How about one of these ideas
Bubble and squeak / colcannon. The difference between these two appears to be that bubble and squeak is subsequently fried. Both consist of cabbage cooked and mashed in with potato. Mmmmm. My favourite (being of Irish extraction, anything involving potatoes comes under the heading "favourite"!)
Finely shred and use in stir-fries.
Finely shred and fry and then sprinkle with five spice for chinese-style "seaweed".
Gently steam whole leaves and line a pie dish with them. Add your choice of pie filling then top with more cabbage leaves, taking care to overlap them. Cook and serve just like a normal pie. Excellent for those people with wheat allergies.
